Bounded-Degree Plane Geometric Spanners in Practice

The construction of bounded-degree plane geometric spanners has been a focus interest since 2002 when Bose, Gudmundsson, and Smid proposed the first algorithm to construct such spanners. To date, 11 algorithms have designed with various tradeoffs in degree stretch-factor. We implemented these sophisticated spanner C ++ using CGAL library experimented them large synthetic real-world pointsets. Our experiments revealed their practical behavior efficacy. share implementations via GitHub for broader uses future research. design engineer EstimateStretchFactor , simple algorithm, which can estimate stretch-factors (obtains lower bounds on exact stretch-factors) spanners—a challenging problem no is known yet. In our spanners, we found that estimated almost precisely. Further, it gave linear runtime performance practice pointset distributions considered this work, making much faster than naive Dijkstra-based calculating stretch-factors.
